New Delhi : The United States is reportedly working with two Ukrainian pilots to determine the time it would take to train them to fly F-16 fighter jets, according to three sources briefed on the matter. The pilots are currently undergoing skill tests in flight simulators to gauge how long they would require to learn to fly various US military aircraft, including F-16s. While the US has given no indication that flight training is underway, the move suggests that it has not ruled out providing F-16s to Ukraine, which has been pushing for the US to supply the jets for defence against Russian missile and drone attacks. However, US and allied officials remain sceptical about providing F-16s due to the considerable training required and the extensive anti-aircraft systems that Russia possesses.
