Samantha is currently playing the titular role in Shakuntalam, a period drama. A few months ago, Samantha revealed that she was suffering from a rare autoimmune disease called myositis. She took a break from work and shooting schedules to focus on her treatment. Despite this setback, Samantha has several upcoming projects in the works. She will be seen in the Indian adaptation of the international series Citadel opposite Varun Dhawan, and she has Kushi with Vijay Deverakonda, a family entertainer set to release on September 1.
