The pandemic hit the film industry the worst, till date the plight of filmmakers investing huge
sums of money into turning their dreams into movies has been very dreary. A shining ray of
hope amidst all of the chaos that the pandemic wrought upon us were short movies. While
feature-length big-budget movies found their new home on OTT platforms, short movies thrived
on YouTube.

Following the same pattern, ‘A Surprise’ was a new year’s gift by James Muni and the team, A
short film that has been raking in a lot of praise since its release on the 1st of January, under
Ranjith Reddy and Nithin’s NR Cine Entertainers and Sri Muneshwara Films banner. The 17th
project of James Muni, who also starred as the main lead. Adding to this James Muni was also
responsible for screenplay, coloring, and editing which were carried out flawlessly.

The short debuted Sowmya N as the heroine who received much acclaim for her brilliant acting
in her first short film. Assistant Cinematographer Rohith and Cinematographer Krishnamurthy
have done a beautiful job of making this pair look grand for the short. Tituz and Chetan have
composed the music for the film with the vocal and lyrical brilliance of Sonu Shah. This musical
combo has turned out to be a huge hit on all audio platforms. The supporting cast of Revathi,
Ankita, Phanindra, Vignesh, and Ankith has also done a very good job. This team had
previously Won National Award at the IFH (Indian Film House) for their short movie D/o
Shivaram, which was a proud and big win for the Kannada short film community. The next step
for them was creating the Lockdown Love story ‘A Surprise’ with a well-received release on
YouTube. A surprising short that surely deserves a viewing to be loved and appreciated.
