Punpun River Causes Road Collapse in Paliganj
In Paliganj, Patna, the rising Punpun River has caused the Rupapur-Bala Bigha main road to collapse. The damage has reportedly cut off Rupapur village from the surrounding areas.
Hundreds of acres of paddy and other crops have also been submerged following the rise in the river’s water level, raising concerns among farmers over crop losses.
Ganga Crosses Danger Mark in Patna
The Ganga River has crossed the danger mark in Patna, increasing the risk of flooding in low-lying areas. The continued rise in water levels has put several vulnerable settlements on alert.
In Raghopur, Vaishali, the Ganga was recorded at 50.36 metres, significantly above the danger mark of 48.60 metres. Floodwater is reportedly spreading rapidly across low-lying and diara areas.

Several families have reportedly been forced to move to roadsides along with their children and livestock. Residents are demanding boats for transportation, drinking water and essential relief materials.

Saran district has also reported flooding across five blocks. Areas including Sonpur, Dighwara and Sabalpur have been affected by rising water levels.

Bhagalpur Faces Further Rise in Ganga
In Bhagalpur, the Ganga continues to flow above the danger mark. Further rises in the river level are expected until September 8, keeping authorities and residents on alert.

Embankment Erosion Risk in Nalanda
Nalanda is also facing the threat of embankment erosion amid rising water levels. Any breach or significant damage to vulnerable embankments could further worsen the flood situation in surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, the Durgavati River in Kaimur is also flowing at dangerously high levels, adding to concerns over the situation in the district.

Amid the dangerous conditions, a youth was reportedly seen jumping into the swollen river. The incident has highlighted serious safety concerns, particularly as strong currents and rapidly rising water levels can pose a significant risk to life.
