On July 20, Hon. HRD Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal “Nishank” introduced the “One Student One Tree” initiative. This project supports the vision of a clean, healthy environment held by the Honourable Prime Minister.

All AICTE-approved technical institutes were asked to conduct a plantation drive by planting a minimum of one tree per student to meet the goal of one crore plants in order to lend a helping hand to this admirable endeavor and to develop the student’s sense of social responsibility.
Diverse tree species should be planted, with an emphasis on minimizing water use in an environmentally friendly way. Additionally, these plants ought to be useful in the area around them.
Students may receive 20 “AICTE Activity Points” as described in Chapter 6 of the AICTE Internship Policy as compensation for completing planting.
Additionally, institutions were asked to organize a plantation drive in cooperation with the local forest department. The government of India’s Principal Secretaries of Forest Departments was asked to assist institutions by providing land for planting.
Students created a special website so that organizations could upload information about trees planted as well as a photo of the planting drive (ideally a group of students holding saplings).
Additionally, it was urged that each member of the faculty, staff, administration, and management of the institutions set an example by planting at least one tree personally.
Up until 2019, more than 30 lakh trees had been planted. AICTE is dedicated to advancing it and achieving the goal of 1 crore trees planted.
The AICTE recognized the top institutions for performance in 2019
