Voting for UP Municipal Elections Continues in Maharajganj

Maharajganj: The voting for municipal elections is underway in the Maharajganj district of Uttar Pradesh. The elections are being conducted for the posts of Mayor, Chairman, and Councillors. The voting began at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm, following which the counting of votes will take place on May 7.

Tight security arrangements have been made at all the polling booths to ensure peaceful and fair elections. The administration has also made necessary arrangements for COVID-19 safety protocols such as thermal screening, hand sanitization, and wearing of masks.

A total of 290 candidates are in the fray for the posts of Mayor and Chairman, while 6,659 candidates are contesting for the position of councillors. The electorate in the district consists of around 9.8 lakh voters who will decide the fate of these candidates.

The polling percentage in the district was recorded at 25.43% till 11 am, and the voting process is going on smoothly. The candidates are making their last-minute efforts to woo the voters to their side.

The election results are crucial for all the parties as they will set the tone for the upcoming assembly elections in the state. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Samajwadi Party (SP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and Congress are the major players in the elections.

The elections in the district are being closely watched by political observers and the outcome will be seen as a reflection of the mood of the voters ahead of the state assembly elections. The final results will be declared on May 7.
