Actor-turned-politician Vijay marked a historic moment in Tamil Nadu politics after taking oath as Chief Minister and delivering a fiery inaugural speech that signaled the beginning of what he called a “new era of real, secular, social justice.” The founder of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) addressed thousands of supporters gathered outside the Secretariat, promising a government that would place ordinary citizens at the center of governance.
Vijay’s rise from cinema superstar to the state’s top political office has been one of the most dramatic political journeys in recent Indian politics. Speaking shortly after assuming office, he said his government would focus on transparency, employment generation, women’s safety, education reforms, and anti-corruption measures. “This mandate is not for one man or one party. It belongs to the people of Tamil Nadu who wanted change,” he declared.
The new Chief Minister emphasized secularism as the cornerstone of his administration. He stated that no citizen would face discrimination on the basis of caste, religion, language, or economic background. According to Vijay, social justice should not remain merely a slogan but must translate into equal access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
Supporters erupted in celebration as Vijay outlined a welfare-driven roadmap aimed at youth empowerment and rural development. He announced plans to create a special employment task force to tackle unemployment among graduates and diploma holders. The government also intends to launch a large-scale skills development initiative in partnership with industries.
Education emerged as a major theme of Vijay’s speech. He promised to modernize government schools, improve digital learning infrastructure, and introduce reforms to make higher education more affordable. He also pledged increased scholarships for economically weaker students and vowed to bridge the urban-rural educational divide.
On women’s welfare, Vijay said his administration would strengthen fast-track courts for crimes against women and expand financial assistance schemes for self-help groups. He added that public transport safety measures would be enhanced across cities and smaller towns.
The TVK government also signaled its intention to reform bureaucratic functioning. Vijay warned officials against corruption and inefficiency, stating that accountability would become mandatory across departments. “Government offices must serve the people, not intimidate them,” he said.
Political analysts believe Vijay’s speech was carefully crafted to position TVK as an alternative to the traditional Dravidian political structure that has dominated Tamil Nadu for decades. By invoking themes of secularism, inclusivity, and youth-driven governance, Vijay attempted to create a broader emotional connect with first-time voters and middle-class citizens seeking change.
The atmosphere across Chennai remained festive throughout the day. Roads were packed with supporters waving TVK flags, bursting crackers, and celebrating the party’s unprecedented victory. Several film personalities and political leaders congratulated Vijay on social media, calling his swearing-in a “new chapter” in Tamil Nadu politics.
Despite the celebrations, Vijay acknowledged the challenges ahead. Rising inflation, job creation, infrastructure expansion, and balancing welfare commitments with fiscal discipline are expected to test the new administration. However, the Chief Minister projected confidence, saying his government would remain accessible and people-centric.
As Tamil Nadu enters a new political phase under TVK leadership, Vijay’s first speech has already set the tone for what could become one of the state’s most closely watched administrations in recent years.
