The newly sworn-in West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari chaired his first Cabinet meeting on Monday, marking the beginning of a new administrative chapter in the state. The high-level meeting, held at Nabanna, concluded with the approval of six major development projects aimed at boosting infrastructure, employment, industrial growth, healthcare, rural connectivity, and urban modernization.

The Cabinet meeting was attended by senior ministers, top bureaucrats, and departmental heads who discussed the government’s immediate priorities and long-term vision for West Bengal. Sources in the administration described the atmosphere as “focused and result-oriented,” with the Chief Minister emphasizing speedy governance and accountability.

Among the six approved projects, the largest allocation reportedly went toward infrastructure development. The state government announced a massive road and bridge modernization initiative covering several districts, including North Bengal, Jঙ্গলমহল, and coastal regions. Officials said the project aims to improve logistics, reduce travel time, and encourage industrial investment in underserved areas.

Another major decision involved the launch of a new industrial corridor project near the Durgapur-Asansol belt. The government plans to attract private investment in manufacturing, electronics, and logistics sectors. According to officials, the initiative could create thousands of jobs for youth and skilled workers across the state.

The Cabinet also approved a rural drinking water expansion mission. Under this project, thousands of villages facing seasonal water shortages will receive piped drinking water connections over the next two years. The Chief Minister stressed that access to clean water would remain a “top governance priority.”

Healthcare reforms also featured prominently in the meeting. The government cleared a proposal to upgrade district hospitals and establish new critical care units in remote regions. Additional funding will be provided for ambulance services, telemedicine facilities, and recruitment of healthcare professionals.

In the education sector, the Cabinet approved modernization grants for government schools and colleges. Smart classrooms, digital libraries, and technical training labs are expected to be introduced in phases. The government believes these measures will strengthen public education and improve employability among students.

Urban development formed the sixth major project approved during the meeting. The state government announced plans for waste management modernization, drainage improvement, and affordable housing schemes in major municipal regions, including Kolkata and surrounding urban centers.

After the meeting, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari addressed the media and said his government would focus on “development without discrimination.” He added that transparency, law and order, and economic revival would guide the administration’s policy framework.

Political observers view the first Cabinet meeting as a symbolic attempt to project stability and decisiveness after the state elections. Supporters of the new government hailed the announcements as a sign of rapid administrative action, while opposition parties demanded clarity on project funding and implementation timelines.

Several ministers later stated that more sector-specific reforms would be introduced in the coming weeks. Departments have reportedly been instructed to submit progress reports directly to the Chief Minister’s Office every month.

The meeting has generated strong public interest across West Bengal, especially among business groups and young job seekers who expect policy changes to improve economic opportunities. Analysts believe the success of these six projects could significantly shape the public perception of the new administration during its crucial first year in office.
