Chitrakoot: The flood situation in Chitrakoot continues to remain a cause for concern as the Mandakini River remains swollen, affecting areas around the historic Ramghat. While floodwaters have receded from several parts of Chitrakoot city, several temples, ashrams and maths along the riverbank continue to remain submerged.

According to a ground report from Ramghat, muddy stretches, damaged walls, scattered debris and strong currents were visible around the affected areas, highlighting the impact of the overflowing river.

Water Enters Ancient Tulsidas Cave

The flooding has also raised concerns over Chitrakoot’s religious and cultural heritage. Water has reportedly entered the ancient cave associated with Goswami Tulsidas, adding to concerns about possible damage to the historic site.

A statue associated with Tulsidas at Ramghat has reportedly been damaged in the flooding, while the canopy structure above it has also been broken.

Historic Ramghat Under Flood Pressure

Ramghat holds deep religious significance and is closely associated with the spiritual history of Chitrakoot. According to local religious tradition, Goswami Tulsidas is believed to have lived at the ghat, prepared sandalwood paste and had a revered encounter with Lord Ram.

Several old temples, monasteries and ashrams connected with the religious heritage of Chitrakoot remain within the flood-affected zone.

Temple Access Restricted Amid Waterlogging

Although the receding water has brought some relief to residents in parts of the city, access to several temples remains restricted because of waterlogging and unsafe conditions around the ghats.

Devotees continue to visit Chitrakoot, but movement around some religious sites has been affected by the prevailing conditions.

Boats Deployed Along Swollen Mandakini

A large number of boats can be seen along the swollen Mandakini River as authorities and locals continue to monitor the water level and the situation around Ramghat.

The receding floodwater in the city has offered some relief, but the condition at Ramghat remains a reminder of the continuing impact of the Mandakini flood. Mud, debris and damaged structures across the riverbank reflect the force of the overflowing river.
