Mumbai: Comedian Samay Raina revisited a difficult chapter from his past with humour while attending a cyber-awareness event in Mumbai on Wednesday. Raina was among the celebrities present as Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched the cyber-awareness short film Digital Arrest and the Maharashtra Cyber 1930 anthem.
During the event, Raina referred to his previous interaction with the Maharashtra Cyber Cell in connection with the India’s Got Latent controversy. His comments drew laughter from the audience and quickly attracted attention on social media.

While accepting his felicitation, Raina joked about his long-standing association with the Maharashtra Cyber Cell and the importance of the 1930 cybercrime helpline.
He said, “Maharashtra Cyber Cell aur mera rishta bahut time se chalta aa raha hai. 1930 is really a great number. Maine toh save kiya hai kyunki is baar mujhe wahi se call aagaya tha.”
Raina further praised the Cyber Cell’s effectiveness, saying, “Bahot zyada active hai Maha Cyber Cell, I can tell you this for sure. Chahe aap US mein ho ya India mein ho, it will catch you.”
He then made another humorous remark about his earlier experience, saying that it was the first time a Cyber Cell team had officially come to a comedian’s home, picked him up and later felicitated him.
His comments left the audience laughing and became one of the most talked-about moments from the event.
Reference to the India’s Got Latent controversy
Raina’s remarks were linked to the controversy surrounding India’s Got Latent, following which he came under the scrutiny of the Maharashtra Cyber Cell last year.
His appearance at a government cyber-awareness programme, followed by his humorous comments about his previous interaction with the agency, was viewed by several social media users as an unexpected “full circle moment.”
A video of his speech circulated widely online, with users praising the comedian for maintaining his sense of humour while referring to an uncomfortable phase from his past.
Several celebrities attend cyber-awareness event
The event brought together several prominent personalities from the entertainment industry. Actors Ashish Vidyarthi, Pankaj Tripathi, Sharad Kelkar, Sonali Bendre and Javed Jaffrey were among those present.
Singer Sunidhi Chauhan and actor-producer Mangesh Desai also attended the programme, which focused on increasing awareness about cybercrime and promoting the 1930 helpline.
For Raina, however, his brief speech became a major talking point, as he turned his previous experience with the Maharashtra Cyber Cell into a humorous moment during the formal event.
