New Delhi: India on Thursday dispatched a second tranche of relief supplies to flood-ravaged Nepal as the neighbouring country continues to grapple with the devastation caused by flash floods along its border with the Tibet region.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said that a second flight carrying 37.5 tonnes of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) materials, medicines and food packets had taken off for Nepal.

He said India remains in close and continuous contact with the Nepalese authorities and will continue to strongly support the ongoing rescue and relief operations.

India Steps Up Relief Efforts

India had dispatched 10 tonnes of HADR materials to Nepal on Wednesday. The second consignment includes essential relief supplies, medicines and food packets to support people affected by the floods.

The first tranche of relief materials was sent shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah and assured him of India’s full support in dealing with the crisis.

Prime Minister Modi said that the people of India stand in solidarity with the people of Nepal during the difficult time and assured the country of all possible humanitarian assistance.

Emergency Supplies Sent to Nepal

The relief material includes several essential items required during disaster situations, including:

Temporary shelters

Blankets

Hygiene kits

Solar lamps

Medicines

Food packets

India is also expected to send additional relief supplies to Nepal over the coming days.

Nepal Faces Major Flood Crisis

Nepal has been severely affected by devastating flash floods, particularly in areas along its border with the Tibet region. The disaster has caused widespread destruction and has reportedly claimed at least 160 lives, while leaving a large number of people missing.

India has said that its teams are coordinating closely with Nepalese authorities on rescue and relief efforts and that assistance will continue based on the requirements on the ground.
