In a recent development, Karnataka Congress leader D.K. Shivakumar strongly denied claims made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that he had proposed changes to the Indian Constitution in order to provide reservations for Muslims. The BJP had accused Shivakumar of suggesting alterations to the Constitution during a recent public speech. However, Shivakumar quickly dismissed these claims, labeling them as false and baseless.

Shivakumar’s clarification came after a series of statements by BJP leaders, who alleged that the Congress leader was advocating for constitutional changes to extend reservation benefits to Muslims. The BJP’s accusation appeared to stem from an earlier speech Shivakumar made, where he expressed concerns about social justice and the need for affirmative action to address the needs of marginalized communities.

However, Shivakumar clarified that his remarks were not intended to incite any religious divisions or call for altering the fundamental principles of the Constitution. He stated that the purpose of his speech was to discuss the challenges faced by various communities and the importance of ensuring that the marginalized groups receive adequate support in the form of reservations.

The Congress leader further emphasized that his party’s stance on reservation was in line with the Constitution and that any such changes would only be made through proper legal procedures. He condemned the BJP’s attempts to distort his words and questioned their intentions behind spreading such misinformation.

Shivakumar’s statement is seen as an attempt to quell the controversy and reassure his supporters that the Congress party remains committed to upholding the Constitution and the principles of social justice. His remarks also highlight the growing political rivalry between the Congress and BJP, as both parties continue to battle for dominance in Karnataka ahead of the upcoming state elections.
