Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) Politburo Chief Ismail Haniyeh on Thursday discussed ending internal divisions and moving forward with reconciliation.
In a telephone conversation, they discussed the follow-up to the outcome of a meeting held in Egypt in late July. The Palestinian news agency “Wafa” reported the news.
At the meeting held in Egypt, Palestinian faction leaders agreed to form a committee to work on ending the division and build national unity.
In a statement, Hamas said Abbas and Haniyeh agreed on the need to speed up the formation of the committee.
The committee will discuss all files to agree on the statement; so that it can present the outcome of their discussions before the next meeting of the Secretary-General (of the Palestinian parties).
The two leaders stressed the need to move forward to “strengthen a common national position to address current challenges” to bring the Palestinian people closer together and build internal unity.
