This morning, a shooting incident at the border between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh resulted in the death of one individual and two injuries. The event was recorded in Assam’s Dhemaji district, along the shared border between the two northeastern states. According to early accounts, three individuals who were planting plants and seedlings on the Assam side of the wall were shot by individuals from Arunachal Pradesh who had crossed the boundary.
Boga Chutia has been identified as the deceased. Pushpa and Montu Gogoi have been named among the injured.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, claimed that some criminals do it in exchange for land, but he has requested the district collector and the SP to look into it.
“We haven’t resolved the border problem yet. The neighboring state often doesn’t attack us. Some criminals carry out this activity for land. I’ve requested DC and SP to look into the matter,” he declared.

The superintendent of police in Dhemaj stated that he has contacted the Arunachal Pradesh government and asked for assistance in finding the culprits.

“We’ve already given the lower Siang administration a call. They will arrive soon. Upon arriving at the scene, Ranjan Bhuyan, Superintendent of Police, Dhemaj, addressed the crowd that we already had notified them that we needed their assistance to apprehend the culprits.
The governments of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh reached a deal last month in Delhi to end their long-standing border conflicts in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. According to officials, the two states chose to settle the conflict in 123 communities.

The boundary between the two states is 804.1 kilometers long.

The arrangement was described as a “big and successful” event by the chief minister of Assam. Pema Khandu, his colleague from Arunachal Pradesh, called the agreement “historic”.

To forward the conversation, regional committees with jurisdiction over particular areas were established last year. These committees included ministers, local MLAs, and representatives from both sides.
The union territory of Arunachal Pradesh, which has claimed that some forested tracts in the lowlands were “unilaterally” transferred to Assam in the past, once belonged to hill tribal chiefs and communities.

A tripartite committee was established following the statehood of Arunachal Pradesh in 1987, and it made recommendations for the transfer of some Assamese territory to Arunachal Pradesh.

Assam disputed this, and the case spent a considerable amount of time in the Supreme Court.
