Mashhad, Iran: Massive crowds filled the streets of Mashhad as mourners gathered for the burial of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, marking the final stage of an extended week of funeral ceremonies held across Iran and neighboring Iraq. The burial at the revered Imam Reza Shrine attracted people from across the country, reflecting the event’s political, religious, and national significance. Iranian state media described the gathering as one of the largest public funerals in the nation’s recent history, while security remained exceptionally tight throughout the city.
Thousands of buses and special transportation services carried mourners into Mashhad from different provinces.
