The G-20 Research and Innovation Initiative Gathering (RIIG) Summit and Research Ministers’ Meeting will take place in Mumbai on July 4th and 5th, 2023.
The G-20 Research Ministers’ Meeting (RMM) will be presided over by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh on July 5, 2023. The gathering is expected to draw a total of roughly 107 foreign attendees, including research ministers from 29 G-20 members, invited guest countries, and international organizations.
The RIIG Summit will be held in Mumbai on July 4, 2023, and will be presided over by Dr. Srivari Chandrasekhar, Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology (DST).
The Research and Innovation Initiative (RIIG) has been advanced by India under the banner of “Research and Innovation for Equitable Society” during its 2023 Presidency. This year, India hosted a total of 5 RIIG events with the title “Research and Innovation for Equitable Society”. The RIIG Inception Meeting took place in Kolkata, and then four thematic conferences were held in Ranchi, Dibrugarh, Dharamshala, and Diu, with the themes of “Eco-Innovations for Energy Transition,” “Sustainable Blue-economy,” and “Materials for Sustainable Energy,” respectively.
Strong links between research and the economy can be used to transform society. To create an equal society, these ecosystems must interact, and this can only happen in an atmosphere that supports both research and innovation. The RIIG meetings give participants at all levels a forum to exchange ideas and forge new alliances in order to advance research and innovation as a weapon for achieving socioeconomic fairness. A focus on addressing aspects of achieving socio-economic fairness through “Scientific Research and Innovation” will be placed on enhancing collaboration among G-20 member countries during the series of meetings that will culminate in the Research Ministers’ Meeting, which summarises the preceding discussions.
The RIIG Summit and Research Ministers’ conference, which begins tomorrow in Mumbai, will examine and adopt the Ministerial Declaration of the G-20 science engagements.
The approval of the Ministerial declaration represents the conclusion of the G-20 RIIG engagements that were held over the course of several meetings hosted around India during that country’s 2023 G-20 Presidency.
G-20 participants will visit IIT Bombay on July 6, 2023, to inspect the research and innovation facilities before the RIIG Summit and Research Ministers’ Meeting.
The European Union (EU) and 19 other nations make up the G-20, an intergovernmental organization that works to address important issues relating to the global economy, such as international financial stability, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and sustainable development. It includes the majority of the industrialized and developing world’s main economies.
