New Delhi : India’s cricket team captain, Rohit Sharma, has weighed in on the KL Rahul versus Shubman Gill debate, stating that players with “potential” will continue to receive the team’s support. He also clarified that Rahul’s removal from the vice-captaincy does not indicate anything. Rahul has been facing criticism for his poor performance in Tests, failing to score above 30 in his last 10 innings and accumulating only 38 runs in the first two Tests of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy.

While Rahul’s poor form continues, there has been a growing demand for Shubman Gill to be included in the playing XI, given his impressive performances in the Indian team, including a ton and a double century in the ODI series against New Zealand.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Tuesday ahead of the third Test, Rohit said, “Players who are going through a tough time, given their potential, will be given enough time to prove themselves.” He further added that being a vice-captain or not doesn’t indicate anything, and Rahul’s removal from the position doesn’t mean anything.

When asked about the playing XI for the upcoming Test, Rohit declined to reveal any hints and said that he would like to announce it at the toss, as last-minute injuries were a possibility.
