2 dams collapse killing 5000 people in Lybia

Heavy rainfall in Lybia has resulted in breaking of 2 dams leading to water surge in already flooded areas.

The interior ministry of Libya’s eastern government said around 5300 are presumed dead as reported by state media LANA.

More than 10,000 people are currently missing.

Head of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies delegation in Libya gave the numbers of missing people during a briefing in Geneva, Switzerland.

145 out of the dead were Egyptian as told by state officials.

Othman Abduljalil, health minister in Libya’s eastern administration said the situation is catastrophic after his tour of the city.

According to reports dead bodies are being left outside morgues on the sidewalks.
