A devastating rooftop explosion in Bhubaneswar claimed two lives on Tuesday evening, with chilling CCTV footage of the incident now circulating widely. The blast occurred in a densely populated residential neighborhood, sending shockwaves through the community and triggering panic among residents.

According to preliminary reports, the explosion took place on the terrace of a three-storey building where renovation work was allegedly underway. Eyewitnesses said they heard a loud bang followed by plumes of smoke rising into the sky. Neighbors rushed out of their homes as debris scattered across adjoining rooftops and narrow lanes below.

Two men who were critically injured in the blast were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite intensive medical efforts, both succumbed to their injuries during treatment late at night. Hospital authorities confirmed that the victims suffered severe burn injuries and trauma caused by the impact of the explosion.

Police officials stated that initial investigations point toward the possible mishandling of explosive materials, though the exact cause is yet to be determined. Forensic teams have collected samples from the site, and a detailed analysis is underway. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of illegal storage of firecrackers or chemical substances.

The CCTV footage, captured by a camera installed in a neighboring building, shows a sudden flash followed by a massive explosion that sends fragments flying in multiple directions. Within seconds, thick smoke engulfs the rooftop. The footage has become key evidence for investigators trying to piece together the sequence of events leading to the tragedy.

Local residents expressed shock and concern over safety measures in the area. Many questioned how potentially hazardous materials could have been stored in a residential building without detection. “It felt like an earthquake,” said one resident. “Our windows shook, and we feared the entire building would collapse.”

Emergency response teams, including fire services and police personnel, cordoned off the area soon after the incident. Authorities have appealed to the public not to speculate and to avoid sharing unverified information on social media.

As the investigation continues, officials have assured strict action if negligence or illegal activities are confirmed. The tragic deaths have once again raised serious concerns about safety compliance and monitoring in residential zones.
