Punjab Government Extends Mobile Internet and SMS Services Suspension Amid Crackdown on Radical Preacher.

Chandigarh: The government of Punjab has prolonged the suspension of mobile internet and SMS services in multiple districts, including Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Moga, Sangrur, and the Ajnala sub-division of Amritsar until Thursday noon. The state administration has undertaken strict measures against Amritpal Singh, the leader of Waris Punjab De, and his associates, prompting the restrictions on Saturday. However, the government has decided to lift the suspension from the rest of the state from today afternoon.

As per the government directive, all mobile internet services (2G/3G/45/5G/CDMA/GPRS) and SMS services (excluding banking and mobile recharge), as well as dongle services provided on mobile networks, except voice calls, will remain suspended in the territorial jurisdiction of Punjab from March 21 (12.00 hours) to March 23 (12.00 hours) only in the districts mentioned above, as well as areas near YPS chowk and airport road in SAS Nagar, to ensure public safety, prevent incitement to violence, and maintain peace and public order.
