PM Modi launches Big Cats’ Alliance on Golden Jubilee of Project Tiger

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Big Cats’ Conservation Project on the Golden Jubilee of Project Tiger on Thursday. The event was held virtually and was attended by officials from several states.

PM Modi said that India has achieved remarkable success in saving the tiger population in the country, which has increased significantly since 2014. He added that the government is committed to preserving the habitat of big cats in the country.

The ‘Big Cats’ Conservation Project will focus on the conservation of lions, tigers, and leopards, and will involve a range of measures such as habitat management, prey base management, and wildlife health management.

The Prime Minister also released a report on the status of tigers in the country, which showed that the tiger population has increased from 2,226 in 2014 to 2,967 in 2019. The report also revealed that India has achieved its target of doubling the tiger population four years ahead of schedule.

PM Modi emphasized that the conservation of tigers and other big cats is not only important for ecological balance but also for the overall development of the country. He said that the conservation of wildlife can also contribute significantly to the growth of the tourism industry, and create employment opportunities for local communities.

The Prime Minister also called for a collective effort to conserve India’s wildlife and urged people to adopt eco-friendly habits in their daily lives. He also emphasized the need to work towards a harmonious coexistence of humans and animals.

The ‘Big Cats’ Conservation Project is a crucial step towards preserving India’s wildlife and ensuring the continued growth of the tiger population in the country.
