Islamabad: On May 6, 2023, Pakistan’s opposition leader Bilawal Bhutto met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing to discuss various issues including India’s actions in Kashmir. Following the meeting, the two sides issued a joint statement calling for India to respect the rights of the Kashmiri people and to engage in dialogue with Pakistan to resolve the conflict.

In the statement, Bhutto and Yi expressed their concern over the current situation in Kashmir and called for an immediate end to the human rights violations being committed by Indian forces. They also emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, which they said could only be achieved through dialogue between India and Pakistan.

Bhutto praised China’s support for Pakistan on the Kashmir issue and thanked the Chinese government for its continued assistance to his country. He also expressed his hope that the two countries would continue to work together to promote regional stability and prosperity.

The meeting between Bhutto and Yi comes amid growing tensions between India and Pakistan over the Kashmir issue. Earlier this week, Indian forces carried out a military operation in the region, which Pakistan strongly condemned. The joint statement by Bhutto and Yi is seen as a sign of China’s increasing involvement in the conflict, as Beijing seeks to expand its influence in South Asia.
