New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) coach Stephen Fleming has confirmed that MS Dhoni is currently nursing a knee injury. This comes after the former Indian captain was seen limping during the match against the Delhi Capitals on Sunday.
Fleming revealed that Dhoni had suffered the injury in the game against the Punjab Kings on April 9, where he was seen wearing a knee cap. However, he continued to play in the matches against the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Royal Challengers Bangalore before sitting out of the game against the Rajasthan Royals on Monday.
“MS [Dhoni] has had a slight issue with his knee, he is resting that,” Fleming said during the post-match press conference after the match against the Royals.
Dhoni has been a key player for the CSK franchise over the years and his absence from the playing XI is surely a big blow for the team. However, Fleming is hopeful that the 39-year-old will be back in action soon.
“We are hoping he will be back in the next game,” he added.
The CSK team management will be hoping for Dhoni’s quick recovery as the team looks to continue its good form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season. The team has won three out of its four matches so far and is currently placed in the second position in the points table.
Dhoni has played in all the four matches for CSK this season, scoring 37 runs at an average of 12.33. He has also been exceptional behind the stumps, effecting four dismissals so far in the tournament.
