Sushmita Singh, a rising star in the entertainment industry, recently shared her inspiring journey in an exclusive interview, detailing her path from a small town in Maharashtra to the world of modeling, acting, and international recognition.
Sushmita Singh began her modeling career at the young age of 14, transitioning into acting by 20. “My journey has been one of discovery and transformation,” Sushmita Singh explained, emphasizing the influence of her childhood dreams and the unwavering support of her family.
A pivotal force in Sushmita Singh’s pursuit of an entertainment career has been her mother. “My mother has always been my greatest inspiration and driving force,” Sushmita Singh revealed. “She believed in my potential as an actor, even when I didn’t. Modelling was my comfort zone, but her vision for me went beyond that. She dreamt of seeing me on the big screen, and it was both my mom and dad’s unwavering belief made me embrace acting wholeheartedly.”
Sushmita Singh’s childhood dreams were also fueled by her namesake, Sushmita Sen. “I was named after Sushmita Sen, and her elegance, strength, and grace have always inspired me,” Sushmita Singh shared. “Growing up, I felt that my name carried a purpose—a reminder to dream big and chase those dreams with courage.”
Sushmita Singh’s journey has been marked by significant milestones. In 2019, she made history as the first Asian and Indian to win Miss Teen World. This achievement opened numerous doors, including a TEDx talk, winning Miss India United Continents in 2022, and becoming the Youth Ambassador for the World Cricket Series alongside legends like Sachin Tendulkar.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, with her mother’s encouragement, Sushmita Singh fully embraced acting. “I still remember her literally dragging me to the look test of my first TV show,” Sushmita Singh recalled. “I was reluctant, but that audition changed everything.” Since then, she has appeared in four television shows, two films, numerous advertisements, and music videos. Her “biggest break” came with a casting alongside Diljit Dosanjh for his upcoming album.
Sushmita Singh discussed the challenges she has faced, including an upcoming film role where she had to fight a six-foot-tall man, and her emotionally demanding role as a young prostitute in “Albela.” “These roles taught me resilience and reminded me of the power of storytelling,” she stated.
When preparing for a role, Sushmita Singh focuses on creating a backstory for the character. “This helps me connect with their world and emotions on a deeper level,” she explained. She cites Sushmita Sen as her biggest influence and mentor.
Sushmita Singh looks for roles that allow her to add value and resonate with the audience. “If the character or story challenges me and brings depth to the screen, I know it’s the right choice,” she said.
A memorable behind-the-scenes aspect of Sushmita Singh’s career is the involvement of her mother. “My mom is my biggest cheerleader, and I try to involve her in every project,” she shared. “Watching her live her dreams through my work fills me with joy and reminds me why I started this journey in the first place.”
Sushmita Singh addressed the misconception that Bollywood only supports those with family connections. “This industry rewards talent, grit, and authenticity,” she asserted. “If you believe in your journey and work consistently, the doors will open for you.”
Sushmita Singh believes the entertainment industry is evolving towards authentic, creative, and high-quality content. She also anticipates the transformative impact of AI and technology on storytelling.
Her advice to aspiring actors and actresses is to “stay consistent, trust the process, and never lose faith in yourself.”
Outside of work, Sushmita Singh enjoys self-discovery through reading, traveling, and creative pursuits. Her future goals include creating a lasting legacy and making an unforgettable impact through her work. “My ultimate goal is to create magic on screen and make an impact that is unforgettable,” Sushmita Singh concluded.
