Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar voiced on Monday Karnataka government’s decision to do away with the National Education Policy (NEP) completely and instead the state will formulate its own education policy which is expected to be followed in the next academic year.

“We will bring new Karnataka Education Policy next year,” voiced Shivakumar. He also added that only after closely assessing the NEP adopted by the BJP government has the Karnataka Government decided to scrap it out completely.

CM siddaramaiah expressed that owing to time constraints and also the results of elections being declared in may and the academic year already begun, the required preparations could not be made.

Shivakumar also posted on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), “After coming to power, we promised to cancel the National Education Policy and we are committed to that promise. What is the rush to implement NEP first in Karnataka? Why has NEP not been implemented in Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh?”

Several BJP leaders however have expressed their concerns regarding the Karnataka Government’s decision. They fear that this step will thwart Karnataka from progressing forward.
