In today’s world, the detrimental effects of pollution on our water, forests, lands, and ecosystems cannot be ignored any longer. Environmental conservation has become an urgent priority.

Aligned with the theory of change “empower women, transform communities,” the Setu program is dedicated to equipping adolescents with the essential tools to address social issues and navigate life’s challenges confidently. Through its comprehensive curriculum integrating life skills, health and nutrition, reproductive rights, financial literacy, gender equity, and safety, the program aims to make a positive impact in the lives of adolescent girls and boys alike.

The Summer Camp 2024 was organized with a central focus on providing a nurturing environment for adolescents to hone their vital life skills. By encouraging participants to apply the knowledge and skills gained from the Setu program, the camp aimed to enhance their abilities while fostering their overall development, alongside promoting environmental conservation and protection. Instilling a sense of responsibility towards the environment is paramount, as is arming them with the skills needed to contribute positively to its preservation.

Overall, the Summer Camp 2024 served as a platform for adolescents to not only develop essential life skills but also cultivate a deeper understanding of their role in environmental stewardship. By empowering them with the necessary tools and fostering a sense of environmental responsibility, the camp aimed to shape future generations into active contributors to a healthier and more sustainable planet.

Taking place across Karjat, Pen, and Alibaug in the Raigad district, the camp welcomed over 500 students aged 11 to 15 from 14 participating schools. This initiative served as a pilot program to evaluate the practical application of the skills acquired through the Setu program, with a strong emphasis on environmental conservation and protection.

Through engaging in activities such as tree planting and discussions on wildlife preservation, participants not only honed their life skills but also developed a deeper sense of responsibility towards nature. Expert guidance and mentorship further enriched their learning experience, fostering personal growth and community engagement.

Beyond immediate impact, the Summer Camp aimed to instill lasting values in its participants. By equipping adolescents with practical life skills and fostering a sense of collective responsibility, EmpowHER India seeks to empower them to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and contribute positively to society.

Ultimately, the Summer Camp is a testament to EmpowHER India’s commitment to empowering adolescents and fostering a more sustainable future. By investing in the holistic development of young individuals, we collectively lay the groundwork for a more equitable and empowered society.

Rupesh Pawar – Program Head, SETU added his take on the idea of this Summer Camp, “By integrating environmental education with life skills development, we seek to imbue the next generation with a deep understanding of the importance of environmental sustainability and to cultivate a strong sense of stewardship towards the natural world. This approach will not only prepare them for the challenges ahead but also instill in them a value system that prioritizes environmental conservation in their lives.”
