The Delhi Police have arrested four more suspects in connection with the brutal lynching of a Hindu man, Tarun Kumar, during Holi celebrations in Uttam Nagar. The incident, which has sparked widespread outrage across the national capital, occurred earlier this week when the victim was allegedly attacked by a group of extremists following a confrontation during the festivities.
According to police officials, Tarun Kumar, a resident of the Uttam Nagar area, was celebrating Holi with friends and family when an altercation broke out with a group of individuals in the neighborhood. The argument reportedly escalated quickly, leading to a violent assault in which Kumar was severely beaten.
Authorities stated that the victim sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds. Following the incident, police launched a large-scale investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
Initially, several suspects were detained for questioning, and two arrests were made shortly after the crime. With the latest development, four additional individuals have been taken into custody, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to six.
Senior police officials said the suspects were tracked down through CCTV footage, eyewitness statements, and technical surveillance. Investigators also conducted multiple raids across different parts of the city to locate the accused.
“Based on the evidence gathered so far, four more suspects have been arrested for their alleged role in the assault that led to Tarun Kumar’s death,” a police spokesperson said. “The investigation is ongoing, and further arrests cannot be ruled out.”
Police sources revealed that the accused are currently being interrogated to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the fatal attack. Authorities are also examining whether the assault was premeditated or the result of a sudden escalation during the festival celebrations.
The case has drawn strong reactions from local residents and community leaders, many of whom have demanded strict action against the perpetrators. Several social groups have also called for a fast-track trial to ensure justice for the victim and his family.
Tarun Kumar’s family members have alleged that he was targeted and attacked by a group that vastly outnumbered him. They have urged authorities to ensure that all those involved in the incident are identified and punished under the law.
Police have assured the family that the investigation will be conducted thoroughly and without bias. Officials said multiple teams are currently working on different aspects of the case, including reviewing digital evidence and interviewing witnesses who were present during the altercation.
Security in the Uttam Nagar area has been increased in the aftermath of the incident to prevent any potential tensions. Police personnel have also been conducting patrols in nearby neighborhoods as a precautionary measure.
Authorities have appealed to the public to maintain calm and refrain from spreading rumors or unverified information on social media. Officials emphasized that strict action will be taken against anyone found responsible for the crime.
Meanwhile, investigators are expected to present the newly arrested suspects before a local court for further legal proceedings. Police said the accused may be remanded to custody as the probe continues.
The tragic death of Tarun Kumar has once again raised concerns about incidents of mob violence and the need for stronger preventive measures during large public gatherings and festival celebrations.
