A distressing fall at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport has sparked outrage after an elderly woman was injured while waiting for a wheelchair that never arrived on time. The airline involved, Air India, has issued an apology and explained that the delay in the wheelchair service was caused by a backlog resulting from a late flight’s arrival.

The 82-year-old passenger had requested a wheelchair for assistance as she arrived on an international flight. Unfortunately, the delay in providing the necessary support left the elderly woman attempting to move through the terminal on her own. This led to a fall, which resulted in injury. Medical personnel were called to the scene, and the woman was later transferred to a hospital for treatment.

Air India’s statement blamed the delay on the arrival of a previous flight, which caused a temporary shortage of staff for assisting passengers. The airline apologized for the incident and assured that it would investigate the matter further. This case highlights the vulnerability of elderly passengers, who rely on timely assistance to navigate airports safely.

The incident has led to increased scrutiny of the airline’s procedures, particularly in regard to its handling of mobility assistance. While the airline has pledged to improve its services, many passengers and advocates for disabled individuals are calling for immediate action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
