New Delhi: A viral podcast featuring self-styled influencer Swatantra Bhardwaj has sparked a political controversy over his alleged remarks about an assault on Sanjay Kumar, father of student activist Nishu Azad, during a Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar.

In the video circulating on social media, Bhardwaj allegedly claims that he “cracked the skull” of Kumar and says he was not jailed following the incident. He also appears to refer to his alleged political connections, including links with BJP leaders, while discussing why he was not arrested.

Swatantra Bhardwaj’s Alleged Claims in Viral Podcast

In the podcast clip, Bhardwaj allegedly describes the incident in a boastful manner. He claims that Sanjay Kumar required around 60 stitches after the alleged assault.

He also refers to Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which dealt with attempted murder under the erstwhile criminal law. Bhardwaj is heard asking, “Do you know which section this crime attracts?” before answering, “Section 307.”

He further claims that Kumar was being taken to hospital in an ambulance in serious condition, while he himself was not jailed and was “roaming around all night.”

Political Connections Mentioned in the Video

Bhardwaj, who describes himself on social media as a “Swatantra Sanatani Yodha,” also allegedly claimed to have the backing of several politicians.

When questioned about the baton he was seen carrying during the CJP protest, he reportedly referred to his alleged connections with the Delhi Police in a mocking tone.

The claims made in the viral video have not been independently verified. The exact circumstances of the alleged assault and any legal action against those involved would depend on official police records and investigation.

Section 307 of the erstwhile Indian Penal Code (IPC) dealt with attempt to murder. However, India’s new criminal laws came into effect on July 1, 2024, replacing the IPC with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
