In a coordinated multi-state counterterrorism operation, the Delhi Police Special Cell arrested eight individuals allegedly linked to the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba. The arrests were carried out across Tamil Nadu and West Bengal following weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering.

According to senior officials, the suspects were part of a module suspected of radicalization, recruitment, and logistical support for terror-related activities. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, teams from the Special Cell conducted simultaneous raids in multiple districts, leading to the detention of the accused without any exchange of fire.

Investigators revealed that the module was allegedly operating covertly, using encrypted communication platforms to stay in contact with handlers believed to be based across the border. Authorities are examining digital devices, including mobile phones and laptops, seized during the raids to uncover the extent of the network and identify possible additional collaborators.

Preliminary findings suggest that the group had been attempting to expand its footprint in southern and eastern India. Officials indicated that the suspects may have been involved in spreading extremist propaganda and facilitating financial transactions to support banned organizations. Bank records and transaction trails are now under scrutiny.

The Delhi Police stated that the accused were brought to the national capital for further interrogation. They are expected to be produced before a special court under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Legal proceedings will determine the duration of custody required for detailed questioning.

Security agencies across states have been alerted to remain vigilant. Coordination between central intelligence agencies and state police units played a critical role in identifying and dismantling the alleged module. Officers emphasized that inter-state cooperation was instrumental in ensuring the success of the operation.

Officials refrained from disclosing sensitive operational details but noted that the crackdown demonstrates ongoing efforts to neutralize emerging threats. “This action underscores our commitment to safeguarding national security,” a senior officer said.

Authorities are also investigating whether the suspects had any plans to carry out attacks or were primarily engaged in recruitment and logistical support. Forensic analysis of seized materials is expected to provide clarity in the coming days.

Meanwhile, security has been heightened in key metropolitan areas as a precautionary measure. Law enforcement agencies have reiterated their appeal to the public to report suspicious activities promptly.

The arrests mark another significant step in India’s broader counterterrorism efforts, highlighting the evolving nature of extremist networks and the continued need for proactive intelligence-based policing.
