On a day meant for celebration and devotion, tragedy struck the Goa temple festival when a stampede during the religious rituals left at least six dead and dozens injured. The incident took place early in the morning at the Shri Shantadurga temple, one of Goa’s most revered religious sites, located in the Ponda district. Devotees had gathered in large numbers to take part in the auspicious occasion, and what was initially a peaceful gathering soon descended into chaos when panic spread through the crowd.

As per eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred when a large group of people tried to push their way through a narrow entrance, allegedly in anticipation of a key ritual being performed inside the temple. The rush led to a sudden stampede, and people were crushed underfoot in the stampeding crowd. Panic, confusion, and fear gripped the gathering as the temple premises turned into a scene of horror.

Authorities have confirmed that at least six people died, and more than twenty others were injured, some severely. The injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals, with several reported to be in critical condition.
