Indian-origin man charged with kicking cop throughout arrest in Singapore

SINGAPORE: A 49-year-old Indian-origin man in Singapore has been charged with assaulting a public servant, an offence for which he will be jailed for as much as seven years and fined or caned.

Haridas Ryan Peter allegedly kicked a 22-year-old particular constable sergeant on his hip and proper hand on January 23 at a carpark in Sembawang, a residential city situated within the north of Singapore.

Police stated they had been alerted to a case of assault at Block 462 in the identical neighbourhood at round 9.15 pm that day, The Straits Instances reported on Thursday.

Following police’s arrival on the scene, Haridas barricaded himself in a flat along with his 52-year-old girlfriend.

Officers from the Disaster Negotiation Unit, Particular Operations Command, and the Singapore Civil Defence Pressure additionally responded to the incident as Haridas may need posed a hazard to himself and others.

After cops managed to enter the flat, Haridas allegedly kicked a police officer throughout his arrest.

His case has been adjourned to February 8.
