The BJP government in Uttar Pradesh has agreed to award a grant of Rs 40,000 for the procurement of indigenous cows from other states under the Nand Baba Milk Mission in order to encourage the breeding of indigenous cows.

The program provides subsidies to herders who buy Sahiwal, Tharparkar, and Gir breed cows from neighboring states for their transportation, transit insurance, and animal insurance costs. According to a government official, this subsidy will only be offered on the purchase of up to two cows of indigenous breeds.

Similarly, the Mukhyamantri Pragatisheel Pashupalak Protsahan Yojana offers incentives to cow herders of indigenous breeds. Additionally, this incentive will be granted to a maximum of two indigenous breed cows.

According to an official, the Nand Baba Mission has resolved a number of transportation-related obstacles for the purchase of indigenous breeds of cows like Sahiwal from Punjab, Tharpark from Rajasthan, and Gir from Gujarat to increase milk output in the state.

According to the official, the subsidy will be paid to state cattle producers on the acquisition of up to two cows from indigenous breeds.

In a similar vein, the government is providing dairy farmers in the state with incentives ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 as part of the Mukhyamantri Pragatisheel Pashupalak Protsahan Yojana to raise indigenous cows of advanced and high-yield breeds.

Cows from the Sahiwal, Gir, and Tharpark breeds would receive Rs 10,000 for every 8 to 12 kg of milk they produce each day and Rs 15,000 for every 12 kg or more.

A Haryana cow will receive Rs 10,000 for producing 6 to 10 kg of milk every day and Rs 15,000 for producing more than 10 kg. Additionally, Gangatiri breed cows would receive Rs 10,000 for providing 6 to 8 kg of milk each day and Rs 15,000 for producing more than 8 kg.
