Mumbai : Despite high hopes from audiences after the success of Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva (2022), Drishyam 2 (2022), and Pathaan (2023), Akshay Kumar’s latest release, Selfiee, failed to impress on its second day. The Raj Mehta directorial earned less than Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon starrer Shehzada, raking in just Rs 3 crore on its second day, which is low for an Akshay Kumar starrer. The film is an official remake of the Malayalam hit Driving Licence and has cost the producers around Rs 110 crore, including advertising expenses.

As Akshay Kumar is being criticized for the film’s failure, producer Ekta Kapoor has come to his defense and praised the actor on her Instagram stories, calling him the most reliable and dependable actor to work with. She criticized the “depressing tabloid culture of bringing someone down to highlight his lows” and added “insensitive” at the end of her quote.

Movie business analyst Taran Adarsh expressed his disappointment with Selfiee’s poor performance at the box office on its first day, with a total collection of just Rs 1.30 crore. The film also struggled on its second day, with poor business continuing to shock and demoralize the industry.

Selfiee also stars Emraan Hashmi, Diana Penty, Nushrratt Bharucha, Mahesh Thakur, Meghna Malik, Abhimanyu Singh, Adah Sharma, and Kusha Kapila in crucial roles.
