Buckingham Palace has announced that Queen Consort Camilla will not wear the Queen Mother’s crown set with the Kohinoor diamond during the coronation of King Charles. Instead, the crown will be altered to include diamonds from the late Queen Elizabeth’s private collection. The decision has sparked a debate over whether the Kohinoor diamond should be returned to India.

Vogue shared a post on the UK Royal Family’s crown, along with a throwback photo, which went viral and sparked a heated debate on social media. Some interpreted the decision as a sign that the Crown doesn’t want to upset India, while others saw it as a symbolic gesture to shed the colonial legacy of the monarchy. However, many Indians are demanding the return of the Kohinoor diamond to India.

One user expressed that returning the diamond would be an actual gesture, and suggested that the current move was performative nonsense. Another user also suggested to return the Kohinoor diamond to India. Another user highlighted the fact that the diamond was stolen from a ten-year-old ruler and was a family heirloom, and hence, should be returned to the Indian government.

Several theories were also suggested in the comment section, including one that stated that the Kohinoor diamond had a curse if worn by men, and hence, it was being removed from the crown. Overall, the decision to alter the crown has sparked a debate about the Crown’s colonial legacy and the Kohinoor diamond’s rightful place.
