New Delhi : Air India is making headlines with its plan to purchase 500 new planes, valued at over $100 billion, in what is set to be the biggest order by any airline, according to Reuters. The report states that Air India has agreed to buy 250 aircraft from Airbus, consisting of 210 A320neos and 40 A350s, and 220 from Boeing, which include 190 737 MAX narrowbody jets, 20 787 widebodies, and 10 777Xs. The agreement with Airbus was reportedly signed on Friday, while Boeing’s deal with the airline was inked on January 27, marking a year since Tata regained control of the state-run carrier.

Since Tata’s takeover and investment infusion, the number of operating aircraft at Air India has risen by 27% to reach 100.
