A devastating avalanche in Uttarakhand’s Badrinath region has buried more than 40 Border Roads Organisation (BRO) workers under snow, with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deploying four teams to assist in the search and rescue operation. While 32 workers have been rescued so far, a significant number remain trapped under the snow.

The avalanche struck the workers while they were in the process of road construction in the mountainous region. The area, prone to heavy snowfall, suddenly saw a major snowstorm, which overwhelmed the workers and their equipment. The workers, who had been constructing roads for strategic purposes, were unprepared for the avalanche, which occurred without warning.

NDRF teams have been actively engaged in rescuing the workers, utilizing advanced life-detection equipment, snowmobiles, and helicopters. The operation has been complicated by ongoing weather disturbances, with fresh snowfall making it difficult to gain access to the trapped workers. The difficult terrain and extreme cold have also been obstacles to the search.

Local authorities have advised people to avoid traveling to the region to ensure that the rescue operation proceeds unhindered. With the search still ongoing, the authorities remain hopeful that more survivors will be found as the teams continue to work through the night.
