“More women should be encouraged to be self-sufficient. Animal husbandry is one of the most efficient ways of sustaining a family.”- Shri Das
The Government of Tripura has recently distributed dairy cows to 49 dairy farmers across three villages of Unakoti district in a public event. Speaking on this, Shri Bhagaban Chandra Das, Minister, Government of Tripura said, “This will contribute to the development in the dairy sector of Tripura. A lot of families will reap direct benefits.”
Subsequently, the Minister also visited East Gokulnagar under the Sipahijala District of Tripura and distributed seven dairy cows to seven different women. “Animal husbandry is one of the most efficient ways to sustain a family. The current government is undertaking various schemes to further the cause and mission of the Animal resource Development department.”, Shri Das said.

Earlier in an interview this month, Shri Das had talked about empowerment of women. When asked to choose between “industrialisation” and “women empowerment” as a priority, the minister explained that both are mutually inclusive. “If you don’t empower women, how can you expect industrial boom? Women constitute half the population of the country. If half the population isn’t encouraged to contribute, how can there be real development?”, the minister asked.

The distribution of cows to the villagers of Unakoti has been marked as an instrumental moment for the locals. “Animal husbandry is instrumental towards the growth of our nation. We are basically a farm-based country. Our animals are our assets and the Government of Tripura is doing everything in its capacity to encourage efficient animal husbandry” the minister concluded.
