He was born on 7 May, 1972 at Nakodar, Jalandhar, Punjab, India. His real name is Harvinder Kumar but people know him as Kanth Kaler, Kaler Kanth or even Sunny Nijjar. There is a long but interesting story behind these names. Actually, Harvinder is a big follower of the famous Peer Baba Murad Shah ji. When he started his career in singing, he went to meet Baba Murad Shah ji in Nakodar. His Baba ji adviced him to use the word ‘Kanth (voice)’ before everything to get success in singing career. Following the words of his Baba ji, he started using this name and got fame in no time with his albums Hun teri Nigah badal gayi, Dass Asi kehra tere bina mar challea, Udikan, teri yaad sajjna. Famous lyricists Kumar Dhaliwal and Madan Jalandhari helped him to record his first album Hun teri Nigah badal gayi because they were really impressed by his voice.
Nowadays, Harvinder Kumar or Kanth Kaler is popular for his Punjabi Sad songs. He sings romantic, sad, devotional songs and touches millions of hearts with his melodic voice.
