Kolkata: Incidentally, the Indian film ‘The Elephant Whispers’ won the Oscar in the Best Documentary Short category at the 95th Academy Awards. The film was released on 8 December 2022 on Netflix. Apart from the Academy Awards, the film was shortlisted at the annual documentary film festival ‘Doc NYC’ in New York. Besides, this film was nominated in the ‘Best Short Documentary’ category at the ‘IDA Documentary Awards’. Note that the Goa Environmental Film Festival started with the documentary “The Elephant Whispers”. The film tells the story of raising an orphaned peacock named Raghu with responsibility.
The documentary ‘The Elephant Whispers’ was a sensation in the cinema world after winning an Oscar. This time, the main characters of the documentary, the tribal couple Bomman-Belli, accused the makers of this film of financial fraud. They said that director Karthiki Gonsalves did not pay them fair remuneration. Not only that, the couple also complained that the money they spent during the shooting was not paid. Bomman-Bailey said they were threatened when they asked for money.
Bomman-Bailey also revealed that they had a wedding scene during the filming of the documentary. Director Kartiki Gonsalves wanted to shoot this part properly. According to tradition, local residents are invited for food and given new clothes at the wedding ceremony. The Bomman-Bailey couple alleged that they had kept the money spent on the entire scene for their granddaughter’s education. This money was not returned to them.
In addition to this, they know that a total of one lakh rupees is spent on them. Director Karthiki Gonsalves said he was busy every time he was called to return the money. Even though he promised to refund the money, he still hasn’t delivered.
