“Strong Earthquake Rocks Delhi-NCR Region, Causing Tremors and Panic”

No deaths or injuries were immediately reported, but videos on social media showed panicked residents fleeing their homes. A powerful earthquake that originated in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region on March 21 was felt for several seconds in various parts of northern India, including Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh.

The magnitude of the quake was 6.6 on the Richter scale and its epicenter was near Fayzabad in Afghanistan, the National Center for Seismology tweeted.

tremors struck at 10:17 p.m. at a depth of 156 km, it said NEWDELHI: A massive 6.5 magnitude earthquake felt across northern India and neighboring Pakistan on Tuesday evening caused residents of several Indian cities, including Delhi,to run from their homes.


The tremors lasted two minutes and reports pointed to the epicenter in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. The epicenter was 40 kilometers south-southeast of the Afghan city of Jurm near the border with Pakistan and Tajikistan.


At around 10pm,people ran from their homes into the streets in Delhi and Noida, some carrying their children wrapped in blankets. Residents of Ghaziabad were also seen on the streets.
