“A girl was searching for light when she had sunshine in her soul.”

She perfectly describes herself with her quote. She is the amazing Shruti Singh, a second year law student who loves to scribble her thoughts and make them shine. Hailing from the city of nawabs, Lucknow, we have her tell how incredible her writing journey has been.

Loving the way she scribbles, she informs us she writes what she feels and by observing what’s around her. The presence of mind and her observation skills are the main reason for her success. Talking about the early stages of her writing, she speaks about how she couldn’t tell what she feels but she allowed herself to feel free in writings. The freedom of expressing herself on paper is the main point of her writing adventure. The colorful streaks on paper were a result of anxiety that wasn’t expressed out loud. Being best friends with paper and pen gave her thoughts and words a great deal that resulted in an incredible start as a writer. She, then, started finding herself in her writings. She has been writing since her school days but as she describes her proper writing journey started in 2020.

As stated in her quote above, she takes pride in finding her light and source in herself. She tells her about her inspiration to write as, “Inspiration is not watching a television show or watching something and getting inspired. Inspiration is the light everyone has inside but we just need to switch on the light once. So if you ask me what inspires me it will be my light. My light-bearers are my parents and friends who have always helped me throughout and motivated me to do good.” These words from her are to be marked by the upcoming writers. These inspirational words encourage the writer within everyone.

She published her solo book on January 16th titled as “Story Of A Brown Girl” which from day one was in the bestsellers. Her book has achieved heights in just 2 months.

Story Of A Brown Girl is a collection of narrative poems and micro tales taking you to the world of a little girl. This book is about the different phases the little girl has to go through throughout her life and how does she feel most importantly. This book reveals the feelings and emotions of all the girls out there in the particular phase of their life. It’s not a story of her it’s the story about girls like you and me

Overcoming writer’s block is almost a nightmare for every writer, but our star basically deals with it by reading poems and stories and taking breaks even up to a month from writing. Giving your mind to take some time to relax and then it all will click on like magic. This is the mantra that she follows.(ps what are you waiting for? Try this to jump away from writer’s block)

A rollercoaster ride, is how she entails her writing path, she never believed that her world would become upside down with this habit. From a shy girl to a confident woman, this passion has changed her tremendously. Her love for writing, as she says, ‘Writing se arrange marriage’, being forced to participate in a competition to falling in love with it unknowingly makes a good book.

As aforementioned, she feels a bit shy in introducing herself as a writer. She continues, “We are living in a society where expressing yourself as a writer or telling yourself as a writer is considered as a fun fact. You will hear Indians speaking and blabbering ” writing ke alava kya karte ho ? Because writing todhi paise degi !”, the change of shyness to being confident in my behaviour would change when there is a difference in the thoughts of the society about writers.” We all are waiting for the correct recognition of these talented writers in our society.

We all see the specialness in her writing. Being asked about it, she expresses her views on her writing as, just writing her heart out is what she considers so special about. When readers compliment her about the writings, about how they feel and relate, the pure happiness when they co-relate to, is what she feels so special about.

Upon being asked about a message for upcoming writers, she advises, “For someone who wants to publish and write poetry,  my only advice will be to trust yourself and the universal will make things fall for you at the right time. Just keep doing what you believe in. Keep working hard and also be the light bearer for someone in need.” These words are worth standing by.
