With the Directorate General of Resettlement (DGR) signing two Memorandum of Understandings with the private sector in less than a fortnight to create jobs for ex-servicemen, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) seems to be pushing the envelope.
As it looks into career options for its ex-staff, whose numbers are expected to increase in the future due to the contractual employment of constabulary under the Agnipath plan, the DGR, which is part of the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare of the MoD, signed an MoU with Adecco India Private Ltd on Wednesday.
The goal is to create employment opportunities for ex-servicemen in a variety of sectors, including IT, E-Commerce, Logistics, Telecom, Aerospace and Defence, Facility Management, Security, Digital Assessment Services, Power and Energy, Manufacturing, Chemical, and Agro, etc., according to a statement released by the Ministry of Defence on Wednesday. As of December 2016, there were under three lakh ex-service members from the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Adecco is a company that offers staffing and recruitment solutions with a focus on consulting, outsourcing, and other areas. “This partnership would bring more visibility of our ex-servicemen to the industry and corporates and help in achieving the objectives of providing skilled manpower and giving our ex-servicemen a dignified second career,” said Maj Gen Sharad Kapur, Director General (Resettlement).
The Ministry noted that it is noteworthy that 24,234 former military members found meaningful employment in various sectors throughout the previous year, from April 2022 to March 2023.
The DGR and Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance Company Ltd signed an MoU in the second week of this month to once again create jobs for veterans. Each year, the MoD distributes cash to the DGR and state-level Kendriya Sainik Boards (KSB) for ex-servicemen’s welfare and rehabilitation, including grants for girl marriage, poverty relief, and support for children with disabilities.
