A delegation from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), consisting of personnel with specialized training and a canine unit, has been deployed to Turkey to assist with search and rescue operations in the aftermath of three devastating earthquakes. The earthquakes, with magnitudes of 7.8, 7.6, and 6.0, struck Turkey one after the other, resulting in the loss of more than 4,000 lives. The authorities are concerned that the death toll will continue to rise as rescue workers navigate through the rubble in the region, which has already been affected by the Syrian civil war and the refugee crisis.
The decision to send aid was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Dr. PK Mishra, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, at the Prime Minister’s Office in South Block. Medical teams are also being assembled, consisting of trained doctors and paramedics equipped with essential medicines.
In response to the destructive temblor, Turkish authorities declared a “level 4 alarm,” which calls for international assistance. The Turkish Ambassador to India, Firat Sunel, referred to India as a “friend” after the Indian government decided to provide relief and humanitarian aid to the earthquake-ravaged nation.
This aid mission is a demonstration of India’s commitment to helping other nations in their time of need. With the death toll still rising, the NDRF and medical teams will play a crucial role in saving lives and providing aid to those affected by the earthquakes. The provision of aid and support to Turkey in their hour of need shows the strength of the friendship between India and Turkey and the international community’s solidarity in times of disaster.
