Defense ministry inks a ₹2725 cr deal with MDL for INS Shankush

New Delhi, June 30 (PTI) The defense ministry signed a contract for the refit of the submarine INS Shankush on Friday with the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) for Rs 2,725 crore.

The sub-surface killer class submarine INS Shankush will undergo a medium refit with life certification (MRLC) at a cost of Rs 2,725 crore, according to the Ministry of Defence. The contract was signed with M/S Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd, Mumbai.

It stated that the MRLC submarine will be delivered in 2026.

In addition, it stated that once the MRLC was finished, “INS Shankush will be combat ready and will join the active fleet of the Indian Navy with upgraded combat capability.”

According to the ministry, “this project is a crucial step towards developing MDL as a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) Hub for supporting the industrial ecosystem of India.” MPB ANB ANB PTI
