Since India is the largest democracy, considering citizen’s opinions is an intrinsic part of its governance.

Religious plurality has been an inseparable part of India’s foundation. For years, people from different religions have co-existed on this land, despite the communal riots prevalent in India, it has always advocated ‘pluralism’ in the best way possible. The recent conduct of CSDS Lokniti Poll reveals that 79% of the people who were surveyed had signalled that ‘India belongs to all religions equally, not just Hindus’ as reported by The Hindu. This colossal number shows that the people’s trust in the plurality of India still remains.

Another significant test of democracy lies in ensuring the free and fair elections in the country. When the question was posed regarding the ‘likelihood of EVM’s manipulation by the current government in power’, 27% of the respondents said that it was ‘not likely’, however, 28% of them said that the manipulation is ‘somewhat likely’ as per the reports by Business Standard. These numbers indicate people’s trust in the Election Commission.

The beginning of the year saw a very prominent decision by the sitting government, the construction of Ram Mandir. This topic had been debated for centuries, and finally the verdict by the Supreme Court left all citizens, particularly, the Hindus, teetering with joy. When asked about whether this construction will increase harmony between Hindus and muslims, surprisingly, an overall of 27% of the respondents believed in this, while 24% aver the opposite belief.
