Chandrayaan-3 has successfully landed on the south pole of the moon, making India the only country to do so.
At around 6:04pm IST the Vikram lander made a historic landing on the surface with which India became the fourth country to land on moon.
ISRO chief S Somanath announced the news of soft landing “We have achieved soft landing on the moon. India is on the moon.”
The Prime minister joined the ISRO team via video call from Johannesburg, South Africa.
PM Modi while congratulating the scientists said “India’s successful Moon mission is not just India’s alone…this success belongs to all of humanity”.
Now Pragyan, a solar-powered rover will roll off Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram lander.
The robotic duo will spend one lunar day (about 14 Earth days) exploring its new home.
With the goal of collecting scientific data about the moon’s makeup before its batteries drain after sunset.
Astonishingly, the project costs 615 crore ($75 million), which is far lesser than the cost of production for many movies.
