Tuesday’s incident in SG Palya, near CHRIST (Deemed to be University), made everyone aware that the area is not only about rat menace, but also lamp posts and roads. The horrific incident of a lamp post falling upon a girl supposedly occurred between 1 or 2 pm, the lunch hour in the university.

The Medical Officer of the University thereafter spread a message on WhatsApp to all its students,

‘Dear Christite

She is hemodynamically stable. The next 48 hours are crucial, following which she will require a lot of care and long term hospitalization.

Please let’s focus our energy on prayer and positivity. Let’s also be vigilant on the roads.

At St. John’s there are two faculty who will be there until her parents arrive. There are also a whole lot of her friends and an aunt and uncle.

The doctors who have assured us that they will do their best. St John’s  has one of the best burns units in Bangalore so she’s in good hands.

We need to look at the blessings – she has survived, she is stable, she’s conscious and talking and she’s young and has been healthy. These will go a long way in her fight to overcome this. Will there be challenges? Yes! But we have to put our positive intentions out there… Those are very powerful too.

Please reach out to me or your counselor at CCHS if you need to talk. Take care.

Asha Pinto

Medical Officer

For several months the grievances of the students and some faculty members have remained the same regarding the infrastructure of the area, where blocks that make up the footpath move and are very risky to walk upon, AC water falling over a particular spot of the footpath that may cause anyone to slip, etc. Tuesday’s incident should make the concerned authorities aware that there is a need to make a few amends.
