India’s Rankireddy and Shetty triumph in Indonesia Open

As the first doubles team from India to win a Super 1000 competition, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won the men’s doubles title at the Indonesia Open on Sunday. The Malaysian team of Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yika was thoroughly defeated by the world No. 6 pair, who took home gold from the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and bronze from the world championships the previous year. The score was 21-17, 21-18.

The 2022 world championships bronze medalists earlier made history by being the first Indian pair to ever win a Super 1000 tournament after mounting an incredible comeback to defeat the Korean team of Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae in a gripping semifinal 17-21, 21-19, 21-18. The current world champions were upset by the Indians, the Asian champions, in 43 minutes.

Six levels make up the BWF (Badminton World Federation) World Tour: World Tour Finals, four Super 1000s, six Super 750s, seven Super 500s, and eleven Super 300s. The BWF Tour Super 100 level is another tournament level that awards ranking points.These competitions each provide various prize money and ranking points. The Super 1000 level offers both the most points and the largest reward pool.
