At Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar yesterday, the Indian men’s senior football team defeated Lebanon 2-0 to win the Intercontinental Cup.
The hosts took the lead in the second half in the 46th minute thanks to a goal from Sunil Chhetri, the Indian captain. The first half ended scoreless. In the 65th minute, Lallianzuala Chhangte scored the second goal, making the score 2-0. India won the first edition of the competition in 2018, and this is their second championship there. 2019 was won by Korea.
India continued their unblemished run in the campaign by defeating both Vanuatu and Mongolia in addition to drawing their previous match against Lebanon. Chhetri has scored 87 goals throughout 137 games for his country. After Argentina’s Lionel Messi and Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, Chhetri continues to rank third among active players in international football in terms of goals scored.
